My take on it is that the Knight's armour is a kind-of frying plate upon which the batter-breath was cooked (having been greased with the butter). The torch is obviously the heat source here although if the knight heated his armour he's be cooked alive inside it.... so that's somewhat perplexing. I think the butter and syrup is definitely the dragons' stash, although for some reason I'm having mental visions of a Blaire-style projectile vomit of batter! lol
I don't understand why so many people are confused by this. Obviously, the two people in the comic are at Hedonism III [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hedonism_Resorts] and they share a food, a renaissance, and a furry fetish. The last panel shows the woman, dressed as a knight (flared hips, space for breasts, small arms), adorning herself with pancakes, butter, and syrup as her lover, dressed as a cartoony dragon, beckons her to the bed.
It's funny because furries are hilarious and pancakes are delicious!
It's clearly a dragon making pancakes. It has the butter, the Mrs. Butterworth syrup, but no skillet to cook them on, so he uses the knight's armor for the hotplate.
everyone just ASSUMES that the dragon is dead... the dragon was OBVIOUSLY trying to cook pancakes when the knight came along... in the second panel he is showing the knight that his hands are simply too big for the task... in the third panel he drops to his knees to worship the Savior of the Pancake who has adorned himself in the raiment of gods
I'm not sure how you still don't see it. It's really simple. A knight ventures into a dragon's cave expecting a horde of gold and treasure.. He finds a pile of syrup and butter, picks up one of the butter sticks because he's confused... And then the dragon appears to guard it's treasure! The knight drops the torch and butter and quickly draws his sword (and you'd think a shield, to fend off some of the flames) but instead of the dragon breathing fire, he breathes pancakes. The knight quickly dispatches the dragon, then pulls a pancake off of his armour, obviously confused as to what just happened.
I think that a lot of people misinterpreted this one.
The knight went to slay a dragon but is confused by its hoard consisting of butter and syrup. He's caught off guard by the dragon, but it actually breathes batter instead of fire so the knight inadvertently turns the batter to pancakes with his torch. The dragon is slain but the knight is still all "Wtf?"
I read it as a dragon whose weakness is pancakes. The treasure hoard of syrup and butter are for his favorite food. The knight came in with pancakes displayed prominently on his armor, as protection or a peace offering. In the last panel, the knight is offering one of the pancakes to the dragon, who is extending its foreleg to take it. .... am I reading too much into it? O_o;
Anyway, whatever it means, it's still a tasty tasty update. Om nom nom pancakes.
okay, so he has butter in his hand....and the dragon appears, I'm guessing he throws the butter at the dragon, cause it's his weakness? and the pancakes are blood?
I'm a bit perplexed by a pancake-breathing dragon keeping butter and syrup as treasure. If I breathed pancakes, I would never want to eat them. Is he just a friendly dragon who likes to feed people?
It took me a while to get this one, like the previous comic. In the first panel I thought it was the dragon that held the butter, before I noticed the armor that dons the arm.
hmmm... the pancakes are splattered all over the knight's body... after you've fought a normal dragon that would've been blood. So the dragon was made out of pancakes?
When it was called "batter breathing dragon" I thought the dragon sprayed batter that the knight somehow cooked into pancakes on his armor. Now that it's "pancake dragon" I see what Thuro sees. Pancake Breathing Dragon might work a little better, maybe.
The comic was concieved with the title "Pancake Dragon". Then, at 5AM after I'd been up all night putting the finishing touches on the last panel I thought, "Ooooh! Batter-Breathing has some great title-oriented alliteration! I'll go with that instead."
I get it. You put 3 non sequitur illustrations in a row creating a comic that makes no sense, then sit back and laugh at everyone's explanations. The joke is on us! Brilliant!
I completely get what you're after here, the knight discovers the trove of pancake paraphernalia (butter, syrup, etc), and stares quizzically at a stick of butter, when suddenly, the dragon rears its ugly head. The dragon is easily defeated because, as we learn in panel three, it breathes pancakes. This confuses the knight, and he wonders and his survival, and his pancake covered armor. However, I see how this could be confusing. I think perhaps too much is left up to our imagination? Maybe a visualization of something to guide the reader to what is going on here.
I think there's too much happening in between panels 2 and 3 for people to fill in the blanks.
I certainly don't totally understand what's happening. I think it's more likely the knight threw ingredients into the dragon to make the pancakes in panel 3. But the fact all the knight has is butter and syrup suggests that the dragon breathes pancakes. Why would a dragon breathe pancakes? And why would that be his undoing?
The reason everyone is having trouble here is because they are thinking too hard. It's pretty simple. The dragon's horde is syrup and butter, and instead of breathing fire, he breathes pancakes.
Panel1: Knight finds dragon horde and wonders "wtf? butter in a cave?" Panel2: Holy crap dragon! Panel3: Well the dragon is dead, but wtf? Pancakes?
My first thought was that the dragon was really made of stacks of pancakes and that the knight broke him down into his individual components. I don't see how he could breathe batter, that's just silly (unlike the idea of a dragon made of pancakes, which has its roots in the tale of Little Black Sambo, who saw tigers turn into butter).
I agree with Juliet here. The horizontal lines across the dragon's body indicate that it's made of a ginormous stack of living pancakes. I would've added some strawberries as blood in the last panel tho. Plus I would've called it Dungeons and Flapjacks.
and i have totally insane idea: the dragon is made of pancake and can be deafeted (eaten) only with syrup and butter. I just think that this pile of butter and syrup is his arsenal and knight is slicing him in the end :D
Hmm, this one's not going over too well and I think it's because we're forcing people to imagine some really absurd physics in between frames. To some degree, I think that's part of the fun, but maybe we stepped a bit too far out there on this one?
Also, I just changed the title... Does it bug people when I edit aspects of the comic after it's been posted?

agreeing with t3kno here that the sticks of butter and bottles of syrup are pretty obviously the dragon's treasure horde. however, i don't agree that the torch has any significance other than use as light in a cave. the sword in his hand in the last panel clearly show he intended to fight with it and was suprised when the dragon breathed pancakes instead of fire.
the lack of a shield is a little perplexing as it seems he did not intend to defend himself in any capacity, regardless of what the dragon breathed.
I think the way he's holding the pancake in the last panel shows his confusion at them. That and the fact that he's holding a sword means he wasn't using the butter and torch for defense. I think he stumbled upon the hoard of butter and syrup, couldn't figure it out, then had to kill the dragon, and realized why it was all there - because the dragon breathes batter. They just got cooked into pancakes by the torch inadvertently.
This one's really obvious. The knight is fighting a batter breathing dragon, so he arms himself with butter and syrup and a torch because he's cooking the batter into pancakes.
Batter in bricks? Wut. Defending against batter breath with a torch? Not so wut but wut. May be it is a butter in bricks to grease tho armor, and torch to make a pancakes which would not prevent tho knight to move.
