It must've taken you a bit of time, so thanks for taking the time to do so, I appreciate it, This post is just great, I'll read the rest of your blog...
A large part of the appeal of this comic, when it's not being brilliant in another way, is figuring out the humor. This could have been done better with no text, especially if the second panel clearly showed an expression of complete bewilderment on Marry Poppins' face, which would have carried the joke completely. No text definitely captures the zen of this comic more strongly; I think the author should be very careful not to take the 'I don't get it' crowd too seriously.
I gotta agree with you, PJ6, so to the author, draw the comic how you want to draw it! If you don't feel like adding bubbles to make it obvious to the ignorant, don't. Your intelligent readers won't hold it against you, I promise. :D
i agree whith constructive critics. and on that feeling, most of the times, less is better. u dont need the prisioner to SAY he is free, u are WHATCHING him fly away... (pardon my english)
I understand what Insomniac by Choice is saying, but I feel that the (rather juvenile) "I'm free!" only adds to the 'comic' aspect of what this essentially is - a comic. As a fellow fan of the late PBF, I also respect where IbC is coming from. However, one must appreciate the fact that one cannot let his mourning for one thing seep into his criticisms of another.
That said, looking back, I DO think that this particular comic could have done without the speech bubble in the last panel. BUT that is only because the expression on the escapee's face so brilliantly says it all.
Yes, yes, I'm gay. Whatever. I couldn't care less about getting slandered on the Internet, just like I doubt the creator cares about whether one person likes or dislikes some aspect of a particular comic he's made. But if you turn into B^Uckley and just say, "Hey, this is my stuff. You either like it or you don't," you're essentially surrendering to mediocrity, and nothing should aspire to that, even webcomics. No, he's not going to go back and change his past works on my account. Hopefully he'll think about them in the future, though, even to disagree them. Disregarding criticism is bad, disagreeing with it isn't necessarily. If you think it's better with "I'm free!" in, then you think I'm wrong. That's fine. The creator probably does too, although hopefully he appreciates some level of attention beyond "lol thats funny" repeated a hundred times over.
Of course, if you're just upset someone is saying "mean" things about a webcomic you enjoy, you're just being a fanboy. I'm not anywhere as talented or clever as the creator, or else I'd have my own webcomic. I found this after I found out PBF was ending and I was glad to know that something approaching that level of creativity was still going to be around. But the goal should always be perfection, and you're never out of line in saying that something isn't.
This shouldn't be about me because I'm just some guy who commented a few times, but if you want to by impersonating me, go right ahead. This is the Internet. No one gives a shit.
